Expectations of Associate Members
- Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- Paid association and initiation fees totaling $350 ($250 due at association ceremony, $100 due by initiation).
- Completion of the Tightrope Risk Management Program.
- Score at least 80% on the National Exam.
- Maintain high moral and ethical character, good behavior, and demonstrate strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Adhere to time commitments and properly submit Leave of Absence (LOA) requests as needed.
Academic Requirements
Minimum GPA for Initiation
2.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) for the previous academic term or cumulative average. Failure to meet this standard by the end of the year may result in disassociation for one full semester.
First-Semester College Students
High school or prior institution GPA of 2.7 may be considered if no college GPA is available. Midterm grade reports must indicate the likelihood of meeting the 2.5 standard.
Membership Fees
- Total First Semester Fee: $350
- Association Fee: $250 (due at association).
- Initiation Fee: $100 (due by initiation).
- Regular Semester Fees: $425

- What is an associate member? An associate member is someone identified as a great fit for Phi Tau, fully engaged in learning our values and principles. Associate members are considered full members except for the initiation Ritual.

- What if I don’t drink? The majority of fraternity activities do not involve alcohol, and we respect every member’s choice to abstain. Alcohol and other substances are strictly prohibited during the associate membership period.
- What if I have concerns about hazing? Hazing is strictly prohibited in Phi Kappa Tau, and we prioritize a safe, supportive environment for all members.
